The proposed Chewko Solar Farm is planned to be located eight kilometres south-west of Mareeba, Queensland.
The proposed solar farm will consist of about 200,000 solar PV panels and will be capable of delivering up to 75MW of renewable energy. It will be located on 150 hectares south-west of Mareeba on land that is currently used for grazing cattle.
The energy generated will be injected into the national electricity grid through an onsite connection that ties into the 132kv power line which runs between Turkinje and Yalkula.
Construction will take about 12 months, with about 250 people employed during the construction period and one to two people during the farm’s 25 years of operation. It will also provide an economic boost to supporting business and services within the Mareeba Shire Council.
A planning application for the project is expected to be lodged in September this year.
At Tilt Renewables we value the strong relationships we’ve shared with landowners and local community groups on all our projects and we would like to build on these relationships for the proposed Chewko Solar Farm as well.
We anticipate submitting a planning application for the project in September 2017. We will undertake community and stakeholder consultation to provide further information and welcome any feedback on the proposal.
As part of this process we will offer to meet face to face with immediate neighbours and interested parties.
Tilt Renewables has implemented community benefit funds at most of our operating projects and we will be looking at establishing a similar scheme for this project once operational. We will engage with the local community closer to construction on an appropriate format and representative management committee for such a community fund.
