Nonowie Wind Farm – Planning and Environment

The Nonowie Wind Farm has a revised design and is preparing to submit project approvals.

Planning Process and Approvals

The Nonowie Wind Farm is in the planning and design phase, with environmental and technical investigations underway. The findings of these surveys will inform the ongoing design of the Project and ensure the Project complies with the relevant planning and environmental legislation.

The Project is seeking to obtain a Renewable Energy Infrastructure Licence under the Hydrogen and Renewable Energy Act 2023.To obtain this licence an Environmental Impact Report and Statement of Environmental Objectives will be submitted to the Department for Energy and Mining. Key environmental assessments are currently underway to inform these documents. Consultation with key stakeholders and the local community will be undertaken as part of this process.

The Project will also need to gain approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). The Project has been deemed a controlled action under the EPBC Act, triggering the need for assessment and approval. The assessment documentation is currently being prepared.

More information about the planning and environment approvals process will be provided in the coming months.
