Outback Energy
Energy from the heart of Australia
Outback Energy is a game‑changing prospect for the energy transition, offering up to 10GW of secure renewable energy.
Outback Energy would provide reliable and secure energy to meet Australia’s future energy needs.
Located in the heart of Australia, there are options to connect to New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland or Victoria.

Development process
The project is still early in development but we already know the wind resource is excellent and have commitments across more than 450,000 hectares of land.
It will require additional transmission infrastructure before more generation can be built.
Tilt Renewables made a submission to AEMO in January seeking consideration of new transmission lines to unlock the region’s renewable energy resource. You can read the submission here.
Why is far west New South Wales a great location?
- One of the best wind resources in Australia – with a high capacity factor and evening winds that generate energy when it’s needed most.
- Very low population density, with large stations tens of kilometres from neighbouring properties.
- Fewer known threatened ecological species compared to many locations closer to the coast.
- Broken Hill’s history as a centre of Australia’s mining development means it has the skills, resources and capacity to support and benefit from projects of this scale.
