Outback Energy – Community Partnerships

Tilt Renewables has operated a large solar plant and wind farm near Broken Hill and Silverton for several years.

We’ve worked hard with our neighbours and landholders to ensure these projects benefited the region while providing energy for New South Wales. These benefits included improvements to local energy security, employment and mental health.

Just in the last two years we have provided over $700,000 in support to the local community and First Nations groups. This includes a multi-year partnership with Lifeline Far West NSW for their How’s Ya Mate Program.

Keeping the lights on in Silverton

Helping communities respond to disaster

On the night of 17 October 2024, the Silverton and Broken Hill communities were left
without power following severe storms that damaged the transmission network.

Tilt Renewables quickly stepped in as the first responder for Silverton, working with
community leaders, landholders and vulnerable groups to help get the lights back on
and support the community through weeks of rolling blackouts.

This included:

  • Installing backup generators for Silverton residents to help protect against future
    outages.
  • Working with the Broken Hill Aboriginal Land Council to install generators in at‑risk First Nations households.

Tilt Renewables also supported the community’s recovery from food loss caused by the
blackouts and extreme heat:

  • Donating $5,000 to Meals on Wheels to replace food spoiled during the rolling blackouts.
  • Funding a voucher program through Lifeline Broken Hill to support 50 vulnerable
    households in replacing lost food.

Lifeline Partnership

How’s Ya Mate?

Tilt Renewables is a proud sponsor of Lifeline’s How’s Ya Mate? program, an initiative dedicated to strengthening mental health and resilience across regional and remote communities.

Developed by Lifeline in partnership with the AFL, How’s Ya Mate? encourages Australians—particularly men in regional and remote areas—to check in with each other, share stories, and break down the stigma around mental health and wellbeing.

How’s Ya Mate program has been operating in the Broken Hill area since 2016 and has a proven track record in improving the community’s mental health and reducing the risk of suicide.

As a renewable energy leader with deep roots in the local community, Tilt Renewables shares Lifeline’s commitment to supporting those who keep the country running—especially in challenging times.
