Broken Hill Solar Farm – Project Benefits
Tilt Renewables is committed to sharing the benefits of our projects with the local and regional community. While renewable energy brings environmental benefits, the Broken Hill Solar Farm also brought employment opportunities to the local community.
Project Benefits
Jobs and local investment
The Broken Hill Solar Farm generated up to 150 jobs during construction. Our construction contractor sourced as many of these from Broken Hill and the surrounding region as was feasible. Local workers were trained in solar plant construction, high voltage power system construction, and construction management support and logistics.
The Project also injected funds into the local community through the use of local goods and services.
Community Support
The Broken Hill Solar Farm provides annual support and sponsorship to the local community. In 2024 Tilt Renewables:
- Providing financial support to the AFL Broken Hill to replace the broken water pump system at Jubilee Oval. This oval is used by all three local AFL clubs in Broken Hill. AFL is one of the key sports played in the area and is played by women and men.
- Sponsorship of the Alma Soccer Club so they could buy new team strips for the first time in 10 years. The new strips include a First Nations artwork designed by Alma life member Lakisha Sloane to represent First Nations players, families and broader community.
Environmental benefits
The Broken Hill Solar farm generates enough renewable energy to power up to 19,000 homes.
