Have your say on the Community Benefit Plan for the Palmer Wind Farm

Tilt Renewables is committed to being a positive community member and are proud to support local projects that make a real difference for the communities where we work.

We are developing a $7 million Community Benefit Plan to support local services and projects as part of more than $13 million in local benefits from the Palmer Wind Farm.

The next round of community initiatives to be funded under the plan include:

  •  $70,000 for a new community bus to improve connections to services and community activities.
  • A scholarship through the Bendigo Bank Community Enterprise Foundation to support adult learners get further education and training.
  • Energy Bill subsidies for all households within 5 km of the project.
  • An annual community wide fund to support emerging priorities in future years

The draft Plan was developed through a survey of residents within five kilometres of the project as well as workshops with Mid-Murray Council, local community groups, the Country Fire Service, and Members of Parliament.

We are now seeking community feedback on the Plan to check we have the balance right and are supporting the projects that the communities want the most.

The $7 million Community Benefit Plan is part of more than $13 million available for our neighbours, local communities and First Nations people over the 30-year life of the project. These include:

  • $2.9 million available through our Neighbour Benefit Scheme ($3,500+ annually per household)
  • $2.3 million to our First Nation partners through our Peramangk Partnership Fund, and,
  • $1 million over five years for First Nation’s training and capacity building.

Announcing the Plan, Anthony Fowler, Tilt Renewables CEO said, “Making sure our neighbours share in the benefits our renewable energy projects can bring is an important part of our ethos at Tilt Renewables and one we deliver wherever we operate in Australia”,

“Importantly, we always consult local communities extensively before we decide which issues we should prioritise and which project we should support”.

“As well as providing more than $13 million in community benefits the Palmer Wind Farm will facilitate more than 200 new jobs in construction and five permanent jobs and is equivalent to powering around 142,000 South Australian homes per year with clean electricity.”
