Waddi Wind Farm – Planning and Approvals

Waddi Wind Farm and Waddi Solar Farm have planning approvals in place.

See below for more information about the approvals and supporting documentation for both Projects.

Waddi Wind Farm Planning Approval

Waddi Wind Farm was first granted conditional planning approval by the Shire of Dandaragan on 11 January 2012.

The Development Approval for the Project was amended on 26 June 2025 to allow for fewer, taller turbines.

Waddi Wind Farm - EPBC Determination

On 20 October 2025, the project received a final determination under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999(Cth) (EPBC Act) enabling construction of the wind farm to proceed.

Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo

To reduce potential impacts to the Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo at Waddi Wind Farm, we have:

  • Reduced the number of turbines from 57 to 18.
  • Increased the tip height to 206 metres to minimise potential for collisions.
  • Located turbines away from all known breeding, roosting and foraging areas, and all known flight and migratory paths.
  • Identified, assessed and avoided removal of suitable breeding and roosting trees within the project site.
  • Engaged qualified ecologists, including world-renowned Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo expert, Dr Mike Bamford, to undertake studies into cockatoo behaviour (including flight height) across the site and local area.

We have also committed to:

  • Revegetating 17.6 hectares of cockatoo foraging habitat close to the wind farm to offset the loss of 5.5 hectares on site.
  • Installing seven artificial nest boxes within 6 to 12km of the project site to enhance breeding in the local area.

Waddi Solar Farm

The Waddi Solar Farm secured planning approval in 2016. The approval allows the Project to be constructed within the boundary of Waddi Wind Farm.

The Waddi Solar Farm remains on hold while we continue to progress the wind farm.
